Tatting

My grandmother used to love green and gold, so I made her this handkerchief many years ago.  This was a embroidered hanky without an edging which I purchased.  I shuttle tatted the edging with size 70 tatting thread.
This is a corner of the hanky.  This edging was done in three rows.  The innermost row was done with only a shuttle to make the hen and chickens pattern next to the fabric. Then I used a ball and shuttle to make the row of chains outside that and the last row of scallops on the outside edge.
This is another purchased embroidered handkerchief to which I added some tatting.  Since I have many handkerchiefs and can't use them all, I sometimes put them under things in my china cabinet to show them off.  It adds a little color to the cabinet, and I get the pleasure of looking at the handkerchief too.
This set of pillowcases was another gift to my grandmother which I made.  The tatted leaves, grapes and edging are embellished with some embroidered stems.  I applied the tatting to the pillowcase and hand buttonholed around the entire edge of the cases.  Then I trimmed the fabric away from behind the work.
All of this was tatted with size 70 tatting thread.  The grapes are solid tatting.  It involves making chain after chain and attaching each chain to the previous one for each grape.  I used an ombre grape colored thread to give the grapes some depth.
